Well in my opinion,
It is quite inaccurate to use items such as shoes to measure length, because shoes come in a variety of different sizes. Sure, they can standardize a shoe size, but that would mean everyone must wear the same shoe length or something, which is pretty impossible. So we use a unit which is known worldwide, such as metres! Everyone knows one metre is one hundred centimetres. They know the exact length of one metre. Which is much more accurate than saying 5 shoes long, because other people might not know how long is your idea of a shoe.

h and another reason why SI Units are used because it is globally recognised, so for example a scientist does the experiment and writes down the procedures and stuff, other people in other countries in the world can understand whatever that scientist is writing.
